3 Things I Regret Giving Up Too Soon & Why You Should Not
Have you ever thought of giving up on something because the results took too long?
I have, many times, and have eventually regretted it, may it be Blogging, YouTube, or Medium.
I was one of the early adopters of these platforms, but I moved on since it seemed there was not much happening, and I was wasting my time as it was taking too long.

Giving Up On Blogging
I created my first website in 2007, a free website on subdomain .4t.com.
I remember the providers were called freeservers.com. I started my first blog on it. This website I created had a page with flash games, another for chatting, and a blog. I then went on to blogging on Blogspot.
Back then I was not blogging to earn money, but the clout of having an online presence. I blogged regularly and loved it.
Then I got bored and moved on. Since then I distinctly remember 3 or 4 times I got back to blogging, but moved on since I was not getting instant gratification of success.
I regret giving up.
Giving Up On Youtube
I created my first YouTube channel back in 2014, it was a gaming/gadget/pop culture channel that I based around an upcoming YouTuber of the time Charles Schneider(Emergency Awesome).
I did videos on unboxing arcade blocks, trailer reviews, gadget reviews, etc.
Unlike now, back then YouTube was not considered a business, I did not work on it long enough to get it monetized. If I look back now, I could have easily gotten it monetized.
Back then it was way less competitive and exposure was quite high.
There again the problem was a lack of instant gratification. I just recently realized one of the videos from back then got 145k views.
I regret giving up.
Giving Up On Medium
In 2019 when the lesser-known blogging website Medium was just coming up. I created a profile to blog again.
I don’t even remember if there was a partner program back then, but I quit again since I was not getting enough reads. Imagine if I had stayed.
I regret giving up.
The One Time I Did Not Give Up
This story is from the year 2007. I was friends with this amazing girl in college and there was some misunderstanding.
To sort it out I wrote the cheesiest letter. I knew it was cheesy back then, but it was my last shot, and I hoped the cheesiness would work.
The letter was a success, and the girl I sent the letter to, is now my wife and mother to our beautiful little girl.
I don’t regret sending that letter, I am happy I gave it a shot.
I wonder how different things would have been if I had not given up on my other pursuits like I did not give up on this one.
Grit
It is easy to give up when you think your current pursuit is not worth the time, or it is too much work to continue.
Making money and gaining recognition online via platforms like Medium, YouTube, Instagram or Substack is not easy.
Creating a product or a business is not easy.
Creating content that no one may ever see or appreciate the hours spent making it is very demoralizing. But if you give up and let it be, then you will not be able to achieve the change in life you yearn for.
Grit is the key, resolve to persevere and not be discouraged due to lack of instant gratification to get through.
Much like many things in life, creating a business or online content is a long game, even the best of your efforts might be ignored for years. But if you believe you are giving it your 100% if you are learning from your mistakes, and if you try to do better every day than the day before, you will succeed.
You will achieve what you truly deserve.
I wish to end this blog by saying, ‘If I can do it, so can you’, but I am not there yet.
I don’t have a respectable following or a successful business yet.
But I have decided not to give up this time. I won’t be running after instant gratification anymore. So far it is going well enough. As of today, I have earned about AUD 600 through my writing in the past 6 months. I have started building my Social Media profile. I have met some amazing fellow content creators with whom I am planning to develop a business. My YouTube channel is running again. So far things are looking good.
I will continue trying, writing, creating content for Social Media, and creating newsletters so that one day in the future I can come back and provide an update, and say
‘I made it, I made myself a brand that is recognized in the small corner of the internet’.
And this is what I want you to know too. If you are a creator still waiting to get those 100, 200, or 1000 followers, don’t give up and make the same mistake I did. Content creation is a long game, you will get there.
I hope this helps, do let me know how your journey has been as a content creator so far.
