Hi
Accountability breeds response-ability.
Stephen Covey
In today’s world, it’s easy to blame distractions and detractors for your failures, but true growth stems from taking ownership of your actions.
This may seem tough in a time when social media has ensured nothing is private anymore.
As most of one’s actions and resulting success and failure are open to scrutiny, one fears being judged for their failures. This often leads to a situation where people backtrack from what they said in the past to ensure not to be held accountable for the consequences.
But this abandonment does not help in the long run.

What Is Accountability?
Accountability means owning up to your actions no matter the result.
There have been situations in my life where things have not gone how I hoped, or I misunderstood a situation and lost the plot.
The ideal response to such failure is not disconnecting from all responsibilities of the results, but owning up to the failure.
A failed blog is blamed on a bad Google Algorithm. A failed investment is blamed on those who suggested making the said investment., A failed relationship is blamed on the other person involved. The intent of doing so is to keep a clean conscience, but it helps no one.
Benefits Of Accountability
A blog fails because not enough effort was put into understanding SEO and keyword research.
An investment fails due to insufficient research before investing.
A relationship fails when one trusts too much or too little. The consequences are due to one’s actions, not someone else’s.
The moment one takes responsibility for their actions, the focus shifts to what matters.
The energy spent making excuses is put into focussing on planning actions better.
A person who takes responsibility is trusted by others. This credibility can only have a positive impact on sustained growth.
How To Build Accountability
To build accountability break down your goals into quick measurable actions.
Measurable actions provide quicker responses for early course correction when things go awry.
Share these goals with a group or specific accountability partner. For a partner choose someone you can trust, who would not judge you for your failures. Do not judge yourself either, consider a failure just learning how to do things better.
Concentrate only on solutions.
Your Accountability Task For This Week
Think of the last big goal you set up for yourself. What is the smallest measurable action you can take to achieve it?
Find an accountability partner you are comfortable sharing this goal.
You can share it with me too, if you are comfortable doing so.
We two can have our small accountability group going. Decide an end date by which you want to complete this action, good or bad accept the result, and take responsibility.
My Accountability Group
I got such a group going last week with Os Ishmael , Vivian Roberts & Vincent George.
We have this accountability group with the sole intent of building something big. We have decided to meet weekly, sharing ideas, wins, losses, and essentially growing together.
Do leave a comment if you would like to be part of this group.
I recently shared some clips from our recent mastermind meeting on my new YouTube channel.
On my channel, I speak about personal branding and personal growth. It is still coming up so it would be great if you could subscribe to stay updated.
Also, check out my Blog Of The Week which is a suggestion for one small action you can take to get going on a path of limitless growth.
