Have you ever been told that Social Media is the last place you should spend your time?
Contrary to that belief, I see Social Media as a powerful tool for growth and influence. However, it can indeed become a detrimental space if not navigated wisely.
In today’s interconnected world, everything, animate or inanimate, carries a value.
You either position yourself as a valuable entity or risk being utilized by others to promote their agendas.
Take a moment to observe the prominent corporations boasting about their strength in terms of followers or users.
Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Google thrive on the engagement of millions, effectively using individuals as fuel for their expansion.
On the flip side, individuals like Mr Beast, Ali Abdaal, Pewdie Pie, and MKBHD have leveraged these platforms to craft their Brands.
The distinction lies in how they utilize Social Media: as a tool to amplify their influence.
Conversely, many individuals unknowingly allow Social Media to shape their opinions and behaviors, serving as instruments of influence for others.
I, too, was once caught in the cycle. Perhaps some of you have witnessed my endeavors in social media comments, attempting to sway perspectives.
However, I’ve come to realize that unless one establishes themselves as an authority in their respective field, their voice often goes unheard.
So, how does one attain authority?
It’s simpler than it seems. Identify your passion and expertise, however niche it may be. Whether it’s gaming, tech, fashion, finance, or any other domain, authenticity is key.
For instance, I discovered my knack for writing through consistent practice on platforms like Medium.
Over time, my confidence soared, and I even generated a modest income of 650 AUD through my efforts.
Today I do have some sway on the platform, with about 1k followers who follow me for my content.
Here’s a straightforward approach to kickstart your journey:
- Identify your skillset – whether it’s writing, singing, event coordination, baking, or any other talent.
- Practice in public and set achievable goals. Share your progress on Social Media to hold yourself accountable.
- Offer your services pro bono initially to garner recognition and feedback.
- Transition to monetizing your skills by promoting your services on Social Media.
This path may seem daunting, accompanied by self-doubt and fear of failure. Yet, consistency and perseverance are the key.
Your dedication to providing value will gradually establish your authority and culminate in creating your Personal Brand.
So, let go of procrastination and embark on your journey to success. Remember, the time for action is now
